This past weekend, our oldest daughter, Bethany, graduated from college. Woo-Hoo! God’s grace is very evident in Bethany’s life and we are overwhelmed with thankfulness to God for what He is doing in and through her.
It’s not just Bethany, though. Lynn and I praise God for all our children. In a day when kids are viewed as a burden and hassle—“something” that stands in the way of accomplishing what “grown-ups” want—we emphatically say, “You’re wrong!” And knowing that what we say doesn’t amount to anything if it’s just our words, God echoes, “I said it first.”
Children are a blessing from God not a burden (Psalm 127:3). And since the Lord desires godly offspring (Malachi 2:15), it is a wise investment of blood, sweat and tears to train them to stand in awe, love and devotion to Jesus Christ. We long to see the day when as adults, they passionately proclaim the gospel in the market place of their calling (Psalm 127:4-5). So through all the sleepless nights and moments of heart breaking pain, we remember how short their time is with us. More importantly, Lynn and I look to the transforming blood of Christ which is able to bring to life the heart of the most stubborn and selfish 3 year old. And as we see God’s grace present in their lives, we praise God and continue in prayer with joy.
