Tyrannus. This continued for two years, so that all the residents of Asia heard the word of the Lord, both Jews and Greeks. (Acts 19:9-10 ESV)
We say that the Gospel is our delight and source of joy because it is
the message, the “good news,” that has set us free from sin and death, and delivered us safely into the family of God. This is all true and we thank our Savior daily for this.
However, the Gospel is also a burden that we carry. In pride, stubbornness and unbelief, many to this day still reject the life found in only in Jesus Christ. Many would rather live as walking dead men in the stench of their own hearts and the filth of the world around them then turn from all this to forgiveness and reconciliation with God.
So, until every prodigal son and daughter comes home, clothed in the best robe, shoes and ring, we must reason with stubborn hearts. It took the power of the Gospel and the faithful persuasion of God’s people to resurrect our dead hearts, and the same will be true for this generation. Since then we now know the fear of the Lord, let us also reason with, persuade and implore everyone we know to repent and believe on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Gospel will be proclaimed throughout the whole world, those appointed to eternal life will believe, and then the end will come (see Matt. 24:14; Acts 13:48). To accomplish this great feat, the Lord will use His Church to carry the message onto every main stage and into every corner of the world. So, get your shoulders ready to hoist a bag of seed. There’s work to do!
