Now I urge you, brothers—you know that the household of Stephanas were the
first converts in Achaia, and that they have devoted themselves to the service
of the saints—be subject to such as these, and to every fellow worker and
laborer. (1 Cor. 16:15-16 ESV)
This is to be the norm ... God saves you, gifts you, matures you and calls you to devotion and service to the saints within your local church. And notice the description of these brothers: "fellow worker and laborer." You and I are not to be "smart shoppers" looking for the best preaching at one church, the best counseling ministry at another church, the best youth group at yet another. No the Holy Spirit wants us to pour all our time, giving, and service into one local church.
The church is not a strip mall. It is a body of believers we are to be devoted to and serve along side.
