I will greatly rejoice in the LORD; my soul shall exult in my God, for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation; he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. (Isaiah 61:10 ESV)
Living up to the standard of a Christian celebrity is not enough to clear God’s high bar. Sure they are trying to follow Christ in the modern world, but mimicking what they do does not make me a child of God. I must find a righteousness that surpasses all human achievement—a righteousness that could be transferred to my account—something that would actually clothe my nakedness.
Enter Jesus Christ. He is the only One who is all that. Only His righteousness will satisfy God’s just demands. It is only when I am found in Christ, not having a righteousness of my own, but through faith having His righteousness that I can finally be at peace with God. And with the daily grind, I grow in His likeness as I “put on the new self which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator” (Col. 3:10)—no other cult figure or persona will do.
