For every silver lining there is always a dark cloud! At least that is how many Christians operate. We are not willing to accept a less than perfect world—our idolatrous hearts are not willing to accept the good and perfect gifts raining down on us from our loving heavenly Father. Too often we are the spoiled children around the Christmas tree screaming, “I wanted the blue one. I don’t like yellow!”
But our calling is to rejoice in the Lord … always and in all circumstances. We don’t take pleasure in pain—that’s just sick. However, we are to take pleasure in our God’s sovereign hand and steadfast love. And it is discomfort, inconvenience, and trouble that purify our praise.
So, let us discipline ourselves to rejoice in the Lord always delighting in Him.
